Abstract
In this paper, the experimental method of active damping of piston engine exhaust gas pulsation is presented. The investigation was carried out on running 3-cylinder DI Diesel engine (Perkins AD3.152 UR Type 3250) on test bench fitted with specially designed exhaust piping. The damping method consists in an active control of flowing agent mass stream by means of injection of compressed air in synchronization to phenomenon in duct, i.e. in counter-phase to the pulsation to be compensated. The method is in assumption destined for damping of low-frequency pulsations in exhaust noise spectrum, whereas applying of classic resonance and absorptive silencers is less effective.
