Institute of Aviation hosted the prestigious EASN conference “Innovation in European Aeronautics Research”

On 26-29th September 2017, the Institute of Aviation became the venue of the 7th International EASN (European Aeronautics Science Network Association) Conference entitled “Innovation in European Aeronautics Research”. The conference was organized jointly with the Warsaw University of Technology and with a special support by General Electric, Air Force Institute of Technology and the Polish Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Its primarily purpose was to exchange scientific thought and disseminate the results of the latest research in aeronautics conducted by scientists from universities and research institutes of Europe, America and Asia.

This year’s edition attracted almost 320 participants from over 20 different countries. In total, nearly 250 lectures were delivered during approximately 50 thematic sessions dedicated to aviation and cosmonautics. The speakers presented recent developments and the state-of-the-art research from such areas of aeronautics and astronautics as: Innovative Approaches in ATM/ATC, Structural Aspects in Aircraft Design, Wing Optimization, Space Physics, Space Robotics, Flight Control, Future Challenges of UAS, and many more.

During the event many very interesting plenary lectures were delivered by the world’s most outstanding personalities of science and academia. The conference was opened by Mrs Clara de la Torre, Director for Transport, Directorate General for Research and Innovation, EC, entitled “Chances and Challenges for Research in Aeronautics within H2020”. Other key-note speeches were given by Dr Marian Lubieniecki (GE Polska), Christophe Hermans (CEAS), Bruno Sainjon (ONERA), Alan Haigh (INEA EC), Dr Bruno Stoufflet (Dassault Aviation), Dr Fay Collier (NASA Langley Research Center), Hannes Ross, Prof. Mirko Hornunung (Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V.), Dr Bruce Holmes (SmartSky Networks) and Dr Frank Anton (Siemens).

The EASN Conference, as usual, was also an excellent opportunity forits attendees to establish and maintain professional and personal relations.

On the last day of the conference, the participants took part in specially organized technical visits at the Institute of Aviation, Airbus, LOTAMS, Warsaw University of Technology and Polonia AERO.
