Biography

Born in Brazil, on April 1956, Ambassador Alfredo Leoni is a Brazilian career diplomat.

In higher education, Ambassador Leoni has the following degrees:

1975-1979 Law, at Rio de Janeiro State University;

1980-1981 International Relations, at Rio Branco Institute, the Brazilian Diplomatic Academy, in Brasilia;

1988 Masters in International Relations, at Rio Branco Institute;

2006 Post-Graduation at Rio Branco Institute, with a thesis on International Cooperation in Education.

Ambassador Leoni has served in the following posts abroad:

1984-1986 Embassy in Mexico (Third and Second Secretary);

1987-1989 Embassy in Berlin (Second Secretary);

1993-1996 Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York (First Secretary);

1994-1995 Brazilian Delegate to the Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council;

1996-1998 Embassy in Beijing (First Secretary);

2001-2003 Embassy in Rome (Counselor);

2004-2006 Embassy in Tokyo (Counselor);

2007-2009 Embassy in Washington (Minister-Counselor and Chargé d’Affaires);

2009-2015 Embassy in Islamabad (Ambassador) and non-resident Ambassador to Afghanistan and Tajikistan; and

2015-present Embassy in Warsaw (Ambassador).

During his 37 year diplomatic career, besides the above mentioned posts abroad, Ambassador Leoni has also served in different areas of the Ministry of External Relations, in Brasilia, and headed several Brazilian delegations to bilateral and multilateral meetings, as well as international conferences.
