On 26-28 June 2019, at the head office of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., a working meeting of the management board of the company was held with representatives of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the possibility of using modern remote sensing, photogrammetric and unmanned flying systems technologies offered by the Warsaw research institute in the company’s work.

The visit to the headquarters of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. in Lower Silesia is the result of a cooperation between the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., which was officially sealed in mid-June with the signing of a letter of intent in the field of research and development. The event took place in Reno, Nevada, USA, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda.

The current talks between the representatives of both institutions focused on specific issues and solutions that the Institute can propose in these areas.

Representatives of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. expressed interest in the remote-sensing and UAS technologies, as well as in research cooperation. The members of both teams also agreed on the preliminary possibilities of their application and implementation. As the first step in further cooperation, the design team of the Remote Sensing Department from the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation will acquire, process and present visualizations of data obtained during photogrammetric flights over selected areas of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

In addition to practical activities on the premises, a number of talks with members of the management of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. were also conducted: Professor Katarzyna Kreczmańska-Gigol – Vice-President of the Management Board responsible for finance, Radosław Stach – Vice-President of the Management Board responsible for production, Ireneusz Jazownik – Director of the Information Processing Centre and Grzegorz Kędzia – Chief Analytical Project Officer.

The participants of the delegation on behalf of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation were: professor Joanna Cygler – plenipotentiary of the director for organization of scientific research, Mariusz Kacprzak – head of the Remote Sensing Department and employees of the department: Hubert Skoneczny, Marcin Spiralski, Karol Bęben and Karol Rotchimmel.
