Termination of appointment of professor Piotr Wolański as the SSRC PAS chairman

On June 29, 2019, Kosmonauta Hotel in Wrocław witnessed a ceremonial meeting to commemorate the end of the 16-year term of the Chairman of the Space and Satellite Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences by professor Piotr Wolański and the end of his duties as the second Vice-Chairman of the UN Peace and Space Use Committee (UN COPUOS).

The program of the official part of the meeting included professor Wolański’s inaugural lecture entitled “Crew space flights yesterday, today and tomorrow” and presentations of the invited guests:

  • Janusz Frączek – “Aviation and space education at the Warsaw University of Technology”,
  • Leszek Loroch – “Development of rocket propulsion systems at the Institute of Aviation”,
  • Zbigniew Gnutek – “Aviation training in Wrocław”,
  • Wiesław Wróblewski – “Aviation training at the Wrocław University of Technology”,
  • Adam Bisek – “Bisek Aerospace – Education of Aviation Personnel”.

Professor Piotr Wolański ended his term as the chairman of the Space and Satellite Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences in March this year. He held this position for 16 years (four consecutive four-year terms since 2002). During professor Wolański’s term, Poland was admitted to the European Space Agency, the Polish Space Agency was established, four Polish satellites were sent into orbit, and the Polish space industry witnessed dynamic development.

Two representatives of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation were chosen to the SSRC PAS authorities board. Mr Leszek Loroch, PhD Eng., director of the Center of Space Technologies, was elected the second vice president and Mr Adam Okniński, PhD Eng., head of the Space Technologies Department, was entrusted with the creation of a section for the delivery systems.
